Session 1 6/11/2020

Researcher and Topic: Tessa Carver, Gravitational Waves

Total Students: 6

Plan: Point at a target object maybe with a telescope and try to score points

Some ideas that came up:

  1.  Maybe there could be coordinates and someone tells you “I’ve found something at X,X” and you have to find the coordinates and click on the thing you are looking for.
  2. Creative and fast game
  3. Can try and collect particles from neutron stars and score points

Conclusion:

  1. Pointing telescope to the target objects
  2. Include in coordinates where the objects are
  3. Collect particles like gold to earn points

Date:  November 13, 2020

Week: 2

Session 1: 18:00 – 19:00

Impact gamer supervisor: Adam

Topic: Movement and Scoring

Ideas:

  • Collect the particles to increase points.
  • Quicker you get to the starts more points you get.
  • Give a timer of 20 sec to find the explosion.
  • Different explosion in different place, so we can collect from all places.
  • Add known starts which can help us to look towards the explosion.

Session 3 203/11/2020

Aim – Look at how to represent failure in game

Outcome – Penalty/Loss of life and Game over system set up

Addition of enemy/trap/obstacle

  • Asteroid: when it hits the pointer – lose a life
  • 5 lives to start with (next week decide on what the lives should look like, as of now its stars)
  • how should the lives be shown as: stars/moons/telescopes (not yet decided)
  • Collides with a white hole: pointer will be pushed away (randomly teleport )
  • UFO:  it will follow you and steal points (like a space pirates)
  • Satelites:  maybe if they find a satellite and press the spacebar over it, it would restore one of your lives and then disappear

What can cause the end of the game for winning

  • Score 10,000 by 5 minutes – win win

Failure of the game:

  • Black Holes: randomly moving around, once the pointer crosses over a black hole it leads to an explosion and game over

For next week:

  • Sophie: will try to make black and white hole art, well make black hole art and colour it in inverted colours for the white hole
  • Add avatars and add characters
  • 5 lives to start with (next week decide on what the lives should look like, as of now its stars)
  • how should the lives be shown as: stars/moons/telescopes (not yet decided)

  • Possible soundtracks: Era of Space by Mr Pork, archi_soundscape_space3.wav by EvanHickler, Mind Lotion – Space Keys.wav by Joachim Schulz, Space between space.wav by aceinet 
  • space 1, space 2 and tentacle wedding are good

Session 4 27/11/2020

Added:

  • Power up: boosts the speed for a few seconds
  • Added stars as power ups
  • Added a map (pointer) to show where we are

Some bugs to be fixed:

  • the shockwaves are everywhere, can’t tell where they are coming from
  • the stars are always spawning on the left side of the screen

Sounds suggestions:

  • For particle explosion:  SupernovaSmall.wav
  • Retro_Explosion_05.wav could be good for the black hole sound
  • Some artworks will be send in by Sophie by Sunday
